Leaving Everest Base Camp

Due to the extremely unstable nature of the Khumbu Icefall, Canadian Climbers on the 1982 expedition began climbing long before daylight.  The theory was that the colder temperatures at night would stabilize the mass of moving blocks of snow and ice.
